Mrs. Nadine Norae Stephenson, 89, passed away at 8:29 pm Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at her home.

Nadine was born October 23, 1930 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin the daughter of Harvey F. and Dorothy Jane Campbell Brown. Nadine graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1949. Following high school she attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menominee, Wisconsin, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Home Economics in 1953. While in college Nadine met George E. Stephenson.

Nadine taught Home Economics in Highland Park, Illinois for two years before marrying Ensign George Stephenson (United States Navy) on July 2, 1955 in Manitowoc at the First Presbyterian Church. George and Nadine Lived in Newport, Rhode Island for several years while George’s ship was stationed there. During this time Nadine developed a love for antiques, and a keen sense of style and design.

Nadine and George moved to Galesburg, Illinois in the late 1950’s. Here Nadine was active with the Galesburg Civic Art Center, Knox County Home Economics Club, Junior Women’s Club (Past President), Hawthorne Club, P.E.O. Chapter W, and the Cottage Hospital Service Guild.

Nadine was a talented seamstress and floral designer. She put her design skills to work at Statice Gardens, Inc. (the family business) for many years. During retirement Nadine and George enjoyed traveling to visit children and grandchildren. They attended eight Elder Hostel programs domestically and several tours abroad with the wholesale florists organization, WF & FSA. They also enjoyed “wintering” at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for 27 years.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George E. Stephenson; daughter, Nancy S. (Brian) Carroll of Evansville, Indiana; and son, Peter M. (Kimberley) Stephenson of Smithfield, Virginia. Grandchildren: Benjamin Carroll of Austin, Texas; Sean Carroll of Chicago, Illinois; Morgan House of Smithfield, Virginia; Virginia Stephenson of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Andrew Stephenson of Smithfield, Virginia.

A Family Memorial Service will be held in Manitowoc, Wisconsin at a later date. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Civic Art Center or to the First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg.
