Son of Abraham Bird Sr. (1756-1820) and Mary Jones (1761-1844)

Businessman in Missouri. Virginia Lobdell Jennings stated in her book "The Plains and The People", that he was buried at "Bird Cemetery", meaning at Bird's Point, Mississippi County, Missouri.

He married Elizabeth ("Eliza") G Byrd (daughter of Stephen Byrd and Mary "Polly" Gillespie) in 1821 in Louisiana.

Jennings reported his death date as 07 May 1835 in her book. She may have seen a marker, which has since been destroyed.

It is possible that Thompson is not buried in the Bird Cemetery, especially if he died of Cholera, as an epidemic was sweeping the world at that time. Many burials were occurring and shipping a diseased body more than a short distance for burial was discouraged.

There is a small stone with the initials "T.J.B." and a broken grave marker next to it. There were no persons in the John Bird family, with the initials TJB, so this could be his grave and his wife's.

Children of Thompson Joseph Bird and Elizabeth G. Byrd:
1. Mary Josephine Bird (1822-1911), m. Benjamin Mackall Horrell 8 Apr 1841, Scott County, MO (Mary buried at Old Lorimer Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, Missouri). She had eight (8) children, but only 2 or 3 lived to maturity
2. Abraham Thompson Bird (1824-1906); He married Julia Louisa Von Phul (1828-1915), daughter of Henry Von Phul & Rosalie Saugrain of St. Louis, Missouri;
Abraham is probably buried at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, even though the directory* does not list him; I have a copy of a letter, dated 20 Mar 1969 from Rev. Lloyd L Cabellero, Pastor, stating Abraham was buried 18 Nov 1906, according to church records. It does not, however, say he was buried at the church cemetery. It is possible that he was buried at the family burial ground at Hollywood Plantation in East Baton Rouge Parish. Since his wife survived him, I believe she would have buried him at the St John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery. Neither has been proven.
Julia was buried at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, St. Louis, Missouri, her home town.
