Ardelle was born February 26, 1915, in Clinton, IA, to Soren N. and Marie (Jacobsen) Juhl. She was educated in the Clinton, IA grade schools and graduated from Clinton High School. She attended Wartburg College in Clinton. She married Russell E. Nelson on June 27, 1937 in Clinton. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Builder's Supply Company in Clinton, and Nelson Lumber Company in Fulton. She also worked at Rose's Gift Shop in Clinton. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Clinton, and participated in the Ladies Aid, Gertrude Guild and the church's choir. She was a member and past president of the Fulton Women's Club and a volunteer at Harbor Crest Nursing Home. She enjoyed knitting.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Russell; one son, Roy (Mary Jo) Nelson of Fulton, IL; one granddaughter, Christine Marie (Mrs. Eric) Gerdes of Brighton, MI; one great granddaughter, Allison Katherine Gerdes.
