Tommie served the Georgia Division as President 1986–1988, Historian 1984-1986, and Life Historian. She served the General organization as President General 1992-1994 and twice as Historian General 1990-1992 and 1996-1998. She was a published author of numerous historical and genealogical books. She was an passionate supporter of women and their accomplishments, which was reflected in many of her publications. The History of the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy 1895-1995 which Tommie compiled for the Division continues to be a valuable tool for anyone interested in Georgia Division history.
