The Fesq family regretfully announces the eternal repose of the Reverend John Alfred Fesq, on the evening of the 30th of April 2019, at First Health Hospice & Palliative Care in Pinehurst, NC. He had celebrated his 88th birthday the month prior.
John was born on March 8, 1931 in Bronx, NY. He grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey and graduated from Teaneck High School in 1949. From 1951-1954, he served as a communications operator in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Sergeant. During his time in the Marine Corps, he served with forces deployed to Japan prior to the final cease-fire in the Korean Conflict.
Following his Marine Corps service, he worked for Bell Laboratories as an engineering assistant, contributing to the development of the Nike-Hercules anti-aircraft missile system for the U.S. Army.
In 1964 he answered God's call to the ministry and preaching of Christ's Gospel, and entered Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) as a postulant for Holy Orders in the Episcopal Church. He graduated from seminary in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree in Divinity, and was awarded a Masters of Divinity from VTS in 1970.
Ordained as a deacon in 1967, and then to the priesthood later the same year, he first served as curate of Christ Episcopal Church in Quincy, MA. In October of 1969 he was installed as rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal) in Dedham, MA. He served there until his retirement in June of 1997. In addition to his duties as parish rector, he was also active for many years in the Cursillo community, a Christian renewal and education program. After his retirement, he briefly served as Rector Emeritus of Holy Trinity Episcopal (now Holy Trinity Anglican) Church in Marlborough, MA.
John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Joan (nee Johnson), his children Eleanor (Dan) Hulse and John Andrew (Monica) Fesq, and his sister Mary (Frank) Troncale. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Liam Hulse and George, Hannah and Olivia Fesq. He was preceded in death by his father Robert M. Fesq, his mother Emily Yost Fesq, and his brothers William and Robert M. Fesq, Jr.
John's wishes were to be cremated soon after passing. Funeral and committal arrangements will be announced at a later date.
