ADELINE "ADDIE" MICHAL
(1921 - 2007)

Adeline "Addie" Michal, age 86, a lifelong resident of Manitowoc, died on Wednesday morning, Dec. 26, 2007, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, surrounded by her children, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Adeline Lillian Reindl, daughter of the late Wencel "Jim" and Martha (Zolk) Reindl on Jan. 25, 1921, in Manitowoc. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1938, and last summer attended her 69th class reunion. On Oct. 11, 1941, she married Joseph J. Michal, who preceded her in death in 2001. Addie worked at the Mikadow Theater until it burned in 1956. Later, she worked for Sorge Dairy, then Lake to Lake Dairy until her retirement in 1983. Addie was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, and was active in the Daughters of Isabella and the St. Teresa Society. She was a very talented designer and seamstress, who not only sewed elaborate dresses for her daughter, but also lovingly created beautiful and cherished patch quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing and listening to old-time music, decorating, cooking, baking, especially the good old Czech recipes, following local issues, taking night classes, and care-giving.

Addie was a wonderful, loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed every day by her children, Jim Michal (Carol) of Olympia, WA and Bonnie Michal of Silverdale, WA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Michal of Pullman, WA, Rick Michal (April) of Chehalis, WA, Michelle Michal of Lacey, WA, Christine Roberts (Mike) of Elma, WA, Erik Henne (Heather) of Seattle, WA, Lukas Henne of Bellingham, WA and Nico Henne of Silverdale, WA. Also surviving are 4 great-grandsons: Andrew and Austin Michal, James Johnson and Brodie Roberts.

She was also preceded in death by her husband: Joseph; her sister: Vivian Vollmer Cahill; her three children; and her in-laws: Helen and John Schroeder; and Harold and Ann Last.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, and at 11 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand Ave., Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton, with entombment to follow at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, until the time of the prayer service at 10:30 a.m.

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity, when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still she will cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. — Washington Irving
