-----------------------------------------------------------Was taken ill Wednesday and Died Thursday Afternoon. Buried at Harmony

Not in many years have our people been so sadly surprised and shocked as they were when the news was sent out last Thursday afternoon that Willis Dowd had just died. Mr Dowd was in town Tuesday morning and it was not known by many that he was feeling unwell, and on Wednesday he went to the field to plow but after going a few rounds felt so badly that he went to the house, suffering intense pain. He went to bed and continued to grow worse until the following afternoon at about 6 o'clock when death relieved him of his suffering. A post mortem examination was held afterwards which revealed the fact that his trouble resulted from an abnormal growth of the intestines, which prevented circulation and resulted in his death. Mr. Dowd
had been bothered at times with this trouble for more than two years past, but did not think it of a serious nature until of late when it gave him much inconvenience and at times caused him much suffering. Mr. Dowd was one of our most highly respected citizens, a man of sterling qualities and good clean morals. He was liked by everyone and his death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of not only his own family but us all who were his warm friends during his life among us. To the broken hearted wife and children, father, mother and sisters, who sit in sorrow where his foot steps shall never again find echo, the community extends its sincere sympathy, and may the peace which passeth understanding come from One who cares for even the sparrow that falls.

William Willis Dowd was born near Glasgow, Jefferson county, Iowa, August 15, 1871. He was married to Miss Agnes B. Eglington , February 28, 1906. He died August 17, 1911, aged 40 years and 2 days. He leaves a wife, two sons, father, mother, and three sisters beside a host of friends to mourn his departure.
