John Morehead Alexander 53, of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina passed away on February 23, 1896. He was born July 4, 1842, the 5th child of William Tasse Alexander I and Mary Jane Orr the (3rd wife of 4). John Alexander returned home after the war and married Martha Frances "Mattie" Query Alexander on June 22, 1865, this union produced my great grandfather, Robert William Alexander Sr. Their children are as follows; 1) Laird F. Alexander 1866-1881, 2) Robert William Alexander 1868-1939, 3) Victor T. Alexander 1870-1890, 4) Mary J. Alexander 1872-____, 5) Rebecca N. Alexander 1875-____, 6) Harriet I. Alexander 1877-____, 7) Abbie C. Alexander 1879-1894, 8) Lois J. Alexander 1881-1881, 9) John Orr Alexander 1882-1930, and 10) Margaret N. Alexander 1885-1894. They had eleven children in all. He served our country as a soldier with the Confederate States Army from 1861 to 1865 during the American Civil War. Mr. Alexander's occupation was a farmer and rancher. He owned several hundred acres of timber and farmland on the Mallard Creek. His farm was located just southwest of present-day Mallard Creek Church Road and I-85. He is believed to be buried in the old cemetery at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church.
