Mrs. Helen Margaret Willingham passed away surrounded by her loved ones at Wellstar Tranquility Center of Cobb County, Georgia on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 after a struggle with Dementia. Mrs. Willingham retired from Richway Stores working as a Security Manager and was a Cobb County Deputy Sheriff. She was very dedicated to giving blood and was pleased to receive her 8 gallon blood donation certificate. She was known to her children and grandchildren as a “ Dr. Doolittle”, as she had a tremendous passion and love of animals. She
had a menagerie of pets throughout her life. She also had a strong commitment of giving to charity organizations. Many Christmases she and her husband would make sure families in need would enjoy Christmas by providing their dinner and presents for all the family members.

Helen was born to Lou Ona Burnette Hanson and James Leander Hanson on September 14, 1932 in Rome, Georgia.

She married her husband, James Max Willingham, on October 25, 1948. She and her loving husband were blessed with 71 years of marriage as they celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary this year.

Helen was the loving Mother of James Michael Willingham of Dallas, Georgia and Diane Willingham Wright and her husband Stephen C. Wright, Jr of Temple, Georgia.

She was a very special Memaw to three grandchildren and their spouses and 5 great grandchildren. Jennifer Simmons and her husband Bruce Simmons and their sons Tanner and Gavin of Rockville, Maryland. Brian Joseph Eig and his wife Jennifer Eig and their children, Bella and Foster of Fairfax, Virginia. Carla Wright Stephens and her husband Kenny Stephens and their son Kenny (LK) of Cartersville, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Leander Hanson and Lou Ona Hanson. Step Mother, Myrtis Hanson.. Great grandparents, Papa and Bessie Hanson. Brother, Junior Hanson. Two sisters, Mildred Kuhlman and Betty Jean Shell and her husband Clifford Shell. Mother and Father-in-Laws, Thomas and Lena Willingham.

She is survived by her brother Tom Hanson and wife Betty Hanson and their daughter Jill of Tampa, Florida. Her sister Ann Brewster and her husband, Robert, who is deceased of Chickamauga, Georgia, and their children Carol, Bobby and JoAnn. Sister-in-law, Judy Harper of Dallas, Georgia and her children, Jeff and Kimberly. Brother-in-law, TN Willingham and wife Kathleen of Temple, Georgia and their children Tommy and Annette. She is also survived by her deceased sisters’ children, Randy Kuhlman and his wife Kay Kuhlman,
Ed Shell and his wife Nancy Shell and Steven Shell and partner Jeannie Tolson.

Helen was greatly loved and adored by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, family members and friends. She will be remembered as a beautiful, loving, generous, steadfast, and gracious woman, Wife, Mother and Memaw.

Funeral arrangements are Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 1:00pm - 5:00pm. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm, followed immediately by the Funeral Service, Interment and Reception. All located in the Columbarium at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064.
