My Great Grandpa~

Son Of Charles William and Melissa Caroline (Johnson) Hoover~

Father Of Barbara Smith~Margaret Alm~Norma Chestnut~

Married Clara Horton Overton~
They had 10 children including an infant daughter that died. He was a Farmer all his life, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He was 10 when he lost his Mother & 12 When he lost his Dad, so he was passed from one family member to another. Left to make it on his own at still a young age. Though he was a stern man, my Grandma said she couldn't have asked for a better Daddy, & that he was a fine man. He believed in teaching all 9 of his children to work hard & appreciate everything they earned. Nothing in this world would ever be handed to them. She said he taught them right from wrong & the consequences of both.

One time when my Grandma (Barbara Smith), was a little girl & she got in trouble for something she had done, she said she looked her Dad in the eye and said "your mean" (something you just did not do back then in her family, or you chanced a spanking with a belt in the barn for being disrespectful), she said he took her out there & instead of a spanking, he sat her down & told her something that would stick with her for the rest of her life. He said that he loved his kids so much that he had to make sure they would never go through what he did & if anything were to happen to him, they would not have to endure the heartache he had known in his life or to know the feeling of being cold, hungry, or alone & the bitterness it leaves behind.

My Grandma said she grew alot in that moment & why her dad was always so hard on them to choose right over wrong, to respect others & what belongs to them, think of others before yourself, treasure all the moments with your loved ones while you have them, work hard for what you get because only then is it deserved & appreciated. She said she realized at that young age how much pain her big, strong dad had went through in his life, & how she could do nothing about it. She said Cindy, even though my daddy passed away years ago, I tell him each & every day how much I love him by being the person he raised me to be, standing by morals & values he so strongly believed, in his heart, were right~When someone you loved so much is gone, it's the only way you have left to say, "I Still Love You", "Everything You Were, Still Matters To Me", "I Think Of You Everyday Of My Life, In All That I Do", "In Any Act Of Kindness I Can Show Another, You Are Remembered", "Your Love Was Never In Vain, Because We Will Love You Forever", & It's ALL my Dad would have asked of me!~

I am so grateful my Grandma told me about him that day. Little did I know then, her very own words above, are what get me through these years without my Grandparents~Laid out like a map, for my heart to follow, because she knew the day would come for me, when I would be so lost with out HER!~ When I would want to tell her I love her, hear her voice, feel her hugs, need her advice, but could not. It's what got her through the rest of her life & she knew those words would see ME through, that I would tell her & my Grandpa how much I loved THEM each day, by following the same morals & values her Dad taught her, & It's ALL she would have asked of me!~Great Grandpa, You Were A Fine Man!!!!~
