John Henry Hardison, 75, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, in his home. John was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Crockett, Texas, to James A and Ceola (Mercer) Hardison.
John’s family moved to Kansas in the 1950’s, where he graduated from El Dorado High School in 1961. He was an adventurous young man who brought his family to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1963. It was that year that he started working for Safeway and retired after 44 years in 2007. John had many hobbies, including having a country-western band, The Final Touch, that regularly played at Rustler’s Roost in Phoenix and Rawhide in Scottsdale on weekends during the 1970’s and 1980’s. In his younger years, he and his family spent many weekends and vacations camping and fishing. He was also an avid hunter.
Another hobby was photography. He spent many weekends photographing wildlife, weddings and parties. As a member of the Arizona Herpetological Society, he spent his spare time relocating (and photographing) unwanted snakes, including rattlesnakes, from people’s yards and homes. In 2008, John moved to Prescott Valley to share his life with his new bride, where he made many new friends. He continued rescuing snakes and became known in the Prescott area as the “Rattlesnake Wrangler.” In 2011, he was inducted into the GACSMA Music Hall of Fame and continued playing music for parties and local nursing homes.
John is survived by his wife, Diane; his four children, Teresa (Sean) O’Brien, Kathleen (Ronnie) Hardison, Kevin (Aubre) Hardison and Christine (Rick) Belver; eight stepchildren: David Clink, Lori (Dave) Puvalowski, Kathleen (Gary) Rogers, Steven (Joelle) Clink, Kelie Robinson, Steven Preshaw, Robert Preshaw and Carl Preshaw; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.
