John Henry Kurtz, 82, Topeka, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.

Mr. Kurtz died Friday, Feb. 28, 1992, at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born Aug. 25, 1909, in Ochiltree County, Tex., the son of Wesley and Edna Martin Kurtz.

As a child, he traveled to Kansas in a covered wagon and had lived in Blaine, Irving, Frankfort, Corning, Chase County, Havensville and Onaga before moving to Topeka in 1990.

Mr. Kurtz was a farmer and had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He also was a truck driver for Topeka's refuse department for 12 years.

He was a member of the Christian Church and a former member of the Onaga Senior Citizens Club.

Mr. Kurtz married Orpha Ruth Tryon, who preceded him in death. He then married Ethel "Peggy" Tillman Trahoon, who also preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte R. Plankinton, Topeka, and Janet F. Brown, Carbondale; five sons, John, Wichita, R. Dale, Lawrence, Don R., Hutchinson, Larry L., San Diego, and Henry W., Overbrook; three brothers, Dave and Joseph, both of Blaine, and Ray, Frankfort; two sisters, Alice Swoboda, Frankfort, and Nellie Hunter, Auburn; 33 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
