James Levi Rush born August 22, 1933 and left this world silently on the afternoon of July 9, 2013, with his children holding his hands. he was preceded in death by both parents.
James was a master cement contractor here in East Texas all of his life. Some of you may know him by his CB handle "The Mud Man". Anywhere you go in Tyler or East Texas and stand still for a moment you will see a building with a foundation that he put down to help bring Tyler to the great city that it is today. He was a hunting and fishing buddy to all his family and friends since childhood. His favorite questions were "Are the fish a bittin'? and "Are ya'll ready for deer season to open?" You knew to never be surprised to get a call out of the blue and him say "Grab your gig we're going after frogs". The meetin' place? Well that was D's coffee shop anytime day or night. If you knew James; you knew you had someone you could count on always to help if you needed anything. He was a great friend, mentor, and just plain "good ole' boy" to everyone he met.
James had three great loves in his life, June Dunn Barnett, Evelyn Tarrant Craft, and Mary Hambrick Rush. He leaves five children to take his great memories, tall stories and funny times to his grand children and great grand children and there are some doozies. He loved to tell a great yarn sitting around the campfire. James had three sons, James Levi Rush Jr., and Jonathan Darrell Rush of Tyler and James Cameron Rush of Flint. He also had two daughters, Debra Rush Howard and Lisa Rush Morgan both of Tyler. He had many dear friends or brothers he called them. He leaves a great legacy in seven grandchildren, Courtney Klepfer, Codey Rush, Kayla Rush, Nicolle Rush, Zachary Reece, Cory Schmoker, and Alexa Rush. As of his death he also leaves four great-grandchildren, Dwight Klepfer, Hayden Craft, Dawson Craft and Kayde Rush.
Instead of flowers or plants, please make a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society or in his beloved dog bubba's name to the humane society of East Texas. The kids would like to say thank you to some folks who were very special to our dad, Glen Cooper, Gary Graft, Dick Brumbelow, Butch Brumbelow, Tommy Dikes and of course everyone at The Hospice of East Texas for making this journey so much easier.
Family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013.
