Butler, Warnie Allen, 83, passed away Thursday evening, July 19, 2007, at the Kansas Veterans Home. Born on Sept. 13, 1923 in Ft. Scott, KS, he was the son of Warnie Allen and Nellie Belle (Menges) Butler. He was raised and attended schools in Ft. Scott before joining the Army on May 14, 1943. While in the Army, he participated in the D-Day Invasion on Omaha Beach as well as the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in June of 1951. On Dec. 31, 1945, Warnie married Mildred Frances Glenn in Girard, KS. He was employed by Hetzer Grocery in Ft. Scott for about 2 years before the Army. After his discharge he attended trade school at Pittsburg State College. He owned and operated a Cab Office in Ft. Scott, and then worked for Wilson Freight in Wichita for 30 years. Warnie was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Winfield. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, hunting, bowling, playing cards but especially loved spending time with his family. His family includes his wife, Mildred F. of Winfield; sons, James L., Paul W., and Phillip N. all of Wichita, Timothy M. and wife, Rene of Denver, CO; daughters, Warnetta Gough of Pittsburg, JoNell Graham and husband, Troy of Derby, and Emma Shull and husband, James of Mulvane; sister, Iva J. Hare of Wichita; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his other siblings. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at the Kansas Veterans Home. Inurnment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. Memorials have been established in Mr. Butler's name for the Kansas Veteran's Home and for Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
