He was the husband of Mrs. Bessie (Daingerfield) Allen whom he married on March 12, 1918 in Harrison County, Texas.
Their known children were Willie Allen, John Allen Jr., Matthew Allen, Bessie Allen, Ruth Allen, Booker T. Allen, Ruth Allen, Lela B. Allen, Clarence Allen, Eunice Allen and Mary Allen.
His wife preceded him in death.

"Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Hickory Grove Methodist Church for John Allen, of 2819 Woodside Street, Dallas, who died March 30 in Dallas. The Rev. Saul Espie will conduct the services. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Allen was a native of Harrison County. He was the son of Mrs. Kizier Roberts Allen and Major Allen. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Hickory Grove Methodist Church. He is survived by four sons..."
His daughter, Mrs. Ruth Jackson, was the informant on the death certificate.
