John Sydney Abney, III, 29, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

Born in Greenwood, June 27, 1990, he was a son of John Sydney “Jack” Abney, Jr. and Rene’ Davenport Abney. John was a graduate of Greenville High School where he was a member of the 2008 State Champion Rugby Team and attended Lander University. While at Lander, John worked in the President’s Office.

Surviving in addition to his mother and father are his paternal grandmother, Josephine B. Abney and maternal grandmother, Jean Davenport, both of Greenwood; a brother, Steven Abney of Wilmington, NC; aunts and uncles, Janice and Tom Waring of Charleston and Jack and Julie Davenport of Lugoff; cousins, Gayle Dellinger and Lauren LaPoint, Richard and Joe Waring and Kelsey Coutsos. John was also a grandson of the late John Sydney “Brother” Abney.

A private graveside service was held Sunday in Edgewood Cemetery.
