Joseph Alexander Columbus, 67, of Shermans Dale transitioned to his Heavenly home on December 15, 2019.
He was born November 6, 1952 to the late Thomas & Leona (Sheaffer) Columbus. A gentle, reflective spirit, Joe often reminisced of childhood stories at Grandma's house and times with his siblings, Tom (Gerry), Susan (late), Jim, Allen, Tina and Bill.
He took pride in having kept the nuns busy along his path to graduation at Trinity High School. As an adult, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force where he fondly told of his time serving in Alaska. There the beauty of nature surrounded him. When he returned to PA, Joe eventually settled into a career with the Navy Depot, Mechanicburg. However, his true calling in this life was being a loving and devoted father to his son, Nicholas. To Nick he gave the gifts of appreciating hunting – especially archery, devotion to country, faith in Jesus and putting others' needs first. In 2006, Joe finally married the love of his life, Teresa (Bailey) through whom he gained a daughter, Alison. With his Treesie he shared their own slice of the woods, many cups of coffee and their faithful dog, Sammi. In his time alone, Joe enjoyed building bows, sketching cartoons and playing music. A true child of the 60s, Joe loved rock and blues of the era. And while he was often seen in camo, pocketed vests and hunting gear, Joe preferred to shoot wildlife with a camera. While he will be deeply missed by those he is leaving behind, his legacy and spirit will live on through his family, children – Nick (Sarah) and Alison (Jake Russell) and especially his grandchildren – Thorin & Leona Columbus and beloved Ben & Ellie Russell.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in the Boyer Family Funeral Home, New Bloomfield. Rev. J. R. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield.
