She was born Nov. 3, 1928, at home in Chapman Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Edwin S. and Leila R. (Klinger) Arbogast. On June 7, 1947, she married Carson A. Shrawder, the love of her life. The couple was married by the Rev. Herbert Frankfort at Zion Evangelical Church, Kratzerville. They were blissfully married for 72 years.
Betty was a 1947 graduate of Selinsgrove High School.
She was employed at Westinghouse during World War II. She was also employed at the Dutch Pantry in Hummel's Wharf. She retired from S.R.S. Electric of Hummels Wharf in May of 1982, co-owned by her husband and brother-in-law.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple Heart where she contributed time for fund raising and organizing events for the DAV and Purple Heart.
Betty and her late husband Carson enjoyed many years with their children on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland.
Betty is survived by her five children and their spouses, Dane and Kay Shrawder of Unityville, Barbara Shrawder of Hummels Wharf, Kathy and Rick Young of Hummels Wharf, Chris and Stacey Shrawder of Selinsgrove, and Nancy and Brian Mensch of Selinsgrove; eight grandchildren, Terri Bentley, Tracey Gray, Stephanie Farver, Steve Shrawder, Matt Young, Nathan Young, Amanda Bruce, and Ryan Mensch; 15 great-grandchildren and number 16 due in June 2020.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Filbert, Donald and Dale Arbogast; and two sisters, Faye Luck and Ernestine Felmey.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 11,with the Rev. Ken Brown of the Richfield United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial with a graveside service will follow in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
