C. Herbert Bechdel, 74, 121 Country Lane, Hunter Run, rural Howard, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 in Lock Haven Hospital. Born April 17, 1929, he was the son of the late Fred and Mable Confer Bechdel. He was a 1948 graduate of Lock Haven High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1958. He attended the Pennsylvania State University where he earned a certificate in horticulture/tree planting and care and also Williamsport Technical College where he received a license in aeronautics. He worked at Piper Aircraft for 26 years and also for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Central Mountain Transportation and Champion Parts Rebuilders, retiring in 1994. He was an active member and supporter of the Millbrook Playhouse, serving on the board of directors for three terms. He was a life member of the Elks and Beech Creek American Legion, and attended the Wesleyan Church in Beech Creek. Surviving are a lifelong friend, JoAnne Caruso of Lock Haven; a sister, Betty Bornyak of Phillipsburg; and two brothers, Mark Bechdel and Paul Andy Bechdel, both of Howard. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. in the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, Howard. The Rev. Bill Smith and Josh Fowler of the Milesburg Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in Schencks Cemetery, Howard Township. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church or the Millbrook Playhouse, both in care of the funeral home.
