Born in Willington, Durham, England, Thomas and his soon to be brother-in-law, Thomas McGuinness, "sang and danced their way to the U.S." in September, 1886. (I actually have reason to believe they were stowaways and that's how they talked their way out of being thrown overboard.)
After settling in Westmoreland Co, they went back to England in February to get their families and returned in the spring of 1887.
Shortly thereafter, Thomas F Kearney married Sarah Ann "Sally" McGuinness. They had many children, but only six survied into adulthood, with another one reaching the age of ten.
One of their daughters, Helen Elizabeth married Vincent Carr and had my father.
Sarah died at the age of 41 in November of 1912 while carrying her 14th child. The location of her burial is unknown.

[A side note, Peter Kearney, Thomas' oldest brother, changed the spelling of his last name to Carney.]
