Services for Mrs. Joanna Benka, 77, the widow of Cudahy Alderman John Benka, will be at 8:30 am Monday at the Ryczek funeral home, and at 9 am at Holy Family church. Burial will be at St Adalbert's cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home after 6 pm Saturday. Mrs. Benka died Thrusday at her home, 3759 E. Barnard Av, Cudahy, after a long illness. A native of Milwaukee, she moved to Cudahy in 1906.
Mrs. Benka was active in civic affairs in Cudahy, often participating in Red Cross, Community Chest, and March of Dimes drives. She also was instrumental in assisting many immigrants to obtain naturalization papers. She was a member of Holy Family Church and its Sacred Heart and Holy Rosary societies. The Sacred Heart Society will hold a vigil at 7:30 pm Saturday and the Holy Rosary will hold a vigil at the same time Sunday.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Klein, Mrs Maryann Polacek, and Mrs. Genevieve Pishkur, all of Cudahy; six sons, Paul, secretary of the suburb's board of education; Peter, a Cudahy justice of the peace and president of the city's Chamber of Commerce; WIlliam, Wauwatosa, chief pharmacist at the county general hospital; Thomas, Cudahy, a Milwaukee county deputy sheriff, and Henry and Eugene, both of Milwaykee and a sister, Mrs. Sally Sowinski, Milwaukee.
