Jazz Musician. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Werth is best remembered for his 1967 trumpet solo, on the recording, "The Stripper." The recording was made popular in old television advertisements for Noxzema shaving cream lotion, and was later played at almost every wedding held in the United States while the groom would remove the bride's garter. A graduate of the Milwaukee State Teachers College, he served in the United States Armed Forces as a member of the Military Bands/Entertainment Division during World War II, before moving to Los Angeles in 1948. After arriving in California, Werth eventually found work with film and television composer David Rose. Besides Rose, he also went onto work for composers Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, and major studios including MGM, and Warner Brothers. He also recorded music for Walt Disney soundtracks. His musical career spanned over 50 years. He died of natural causes, at the age of 88.
