John Mercer Atkins, 82, of Bethany, Oklahoma and formerly of Blanchard, Oklahoma died on Monday, December 30, 2019, at his home. The son of Albert Lewis Atkins and Mayfair Beatrice (Mercer) Atkins, he was born July 13, 1937 in Seattle, Washington. John was a veteran of the US Air Force, and worked for many years as an electrician. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barbara Green and Sandy Genovese; his former wife, Mary Atkins; and one nephew, Scott Genovese. John was survived by a daughter, Cindy Poe and husband Ronnie of Dibble; a son, Bob Atkins and wife Gayla of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Atkins of Oklahoma City, Hanna Carter and husband Brandon of Oklahoma City, Trinity Atkins of Oklahoma City, Jayden Atkins of Oklahoma City, Michael Poe and wife Sara of Blanchard, Stephen Poe and fiancée Tonya Miller of Cushing, and Bethanie Chaney and husband Jacob of Chickasha; one great grandson, Tyler Poe of Blanchard; several nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, 11 January, at the Dibble Free Will Baptist Church.
