Sophia G. Werner, 84, of Bloomington passed away peacefully at Garden Villa Health Care Center on Saturday, December 28, 2019. Sophia was born on September 19, 1935 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Myrtle and Bige Hicks.
Sophia retired from Indiana University. She attended Old Dutch Church on Red Hill Road in Ellettsville.
Survivors include her sister, Wanda Istenes (Robert); children, Karen Smith (Charles), Debra Werner, Joseph Werner (Janie) and Elizabeth Jackson, elven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Werner "Pappy"; son, Jeffery Werner; and five siblings.
Funeral Services will be held at Old Dutch Community Church in Ellettsville on Friday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
