Bentley died in a tragic vineyard accident in Corvallis, Oregon, on January 14, 2017.
Bentley was born October 14, 1983, to Amy Shuffstall and Bentley Hart Chappell III. He grew up in Midland, GA on 60 acres of red oaks and granite-bottom streams, land known to the family as The Grotto. There he was surrounded by nature and wildlife, which he loved.
A graduate of Brookstone School, Bentley received a degree from Oregon State University in Corvallis in viticulture, a branch of horticultural science.
In college, Bentley planted his own small block of pinot noir grapes known as "The Lucid Dream" on the property of close family friends. This year marked his eighth harvest.
Over the last eight years Bentley had gained experience on multiple vineyards throughout the Willamette valley, most recently at Brigadoon Winery and Sunny Mountain Vineyard.
Bentley's exuberance and enthusiasm for music, wine and friends will be missed by all.
He is survived by his mother, Amy Shuffstall Nurnberg (Dick) of Columbus, GA; his father, Bentley Hart Chappell III (Nancy) of Montague, MA; his brother, Patrick Reid Chappell of Brooklyn, NY; his aunts Blanchette Chappell Maier (Frank) of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia Chappell Burnette (Gary) of Waynesboro, VA, Emily Alice Shuffstall of Athens, GA; his partner Katy Willis of Corvallis OR and a host of cousins and friends.
