Robert Phillip Vaughan, Sr. of Plano, Texas passed away December 28, 2019 at the age of 80. He was born on April 1, 1939 to Lonnie James Vaughan and Mabelle Clair (Strickland) Vaughan in Arlington, Texas. Robert graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1957, then enrolled at Arlington State College, where he was a member of the Cadet Corps. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 1962, and was then Commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was also a United States Army Ranger and Aviator, flying the Caribou plane and Huey helicopter. Across his military career, Robert served tours of duty in Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, Virginia, Korea and Kansas. While stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he was granted a Master's Degree in Business Administration and Personnel Management from Webster University. After retirement from the Army, Robert worked for the Texas Division of Emergency Management and later the Texas Department of Insurance before his final retirement. In 2009, Robert was inducted into the Hall of Honor at the University of Texas at Arlington by the Cadet Corps Alumni Council. He enjoyed golf and classic cars and was a lifetime Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys fan. The last few years he enjoyed spending time with his dog, Lilly Marlene.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Holly Valadez and husband, Orlando; sons, Robert Phillip Vaughan, Jr. and wife, DeeDee; and John Michael Vaughan and wife, Leah; grandchildren, Owen Michael Wootten, Mary Emily Valadez and Seth Michael Vaughan and other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Nancy Carol Vaughan in 1993; his first wife he had later remarried, Jacklin Diana Vaughan in 2015; parents, Lonnie and Mabelle Vaughan; and brothers, Homer Strickland "Lee" Brown and Roy Brown, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. The family will receive friends during a visitation Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
