DANBY - A Willseyville man was found Friday night lying near a pickup truck which had slid into a ditch flanking Bruce Hill Road, according to sheriff's deputies.

Authorities said attempts by ambulance hospital teams failed to revive Alan G. Foote, 34, of 245 Danby Road, and he was pronounced dead at Tompkins Community Hospital.

Deputies said Foote appeared to be trying to work the vehicle back onto the road, about one-third of a mile from the intersection with Brown Road. He was discovered face down in the snow, just to the rear of the 1978 Datsun. He had blocked a rear wheel with a pillow, probably for traction, according to deputies.

Foote was traveling north and uphill in the truck, which is registered to his wife, Linda, when he skidded off the icy pavement, deputies said.

The investigating deputy reported that Foote showed no vital signs at the scene. The sheriff's office said the cause of death had not been determined, but an autopsy was scheduled.

Hospital officials Friday night said they were not prepared to list an official cause of death, and declined to say when an autopsy might be performed.
