Walter P. Beggs, 60, of Dorchester died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at home.

Born in Newport News, VA., he was the son of Ada May Butcher Beggs and the late Samuel Beggs and the husband of Maryanne Klein Beggs. Mr. Beggs resided in Dorchester the past 20 years. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and received a Purple Heart. He was a self-employed refrigeration contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Maryanne; daughters, Marcia Oakum (Craig) of Cherry Hill, Suzanne Burdsall (Jeff) of Dorchester and Viki Finch of Dorchester; his mother, Ada May Smith of Michigan; brothers, William Beggs of Missouri and Irving Lee Beggs of Dorchester, sisters, Judy Davis and Pamela Fouty, both of Mississippi; grandchildren, Evan and Erica Burdsall and Rene and Cedric Finch; an aunt, Sylvia Maxfield of Dorchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held privately for the immediate family at Hoffman Funeral Homes in Leesburg, with burial in Head of the River Cemetery in Estell Manor.
