James Conrad Dawson, 101, of Pontiac, IL passed away at 11:22 pm on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Tjardes Health Center of Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Pike Township Cemetery with Rev. Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the grave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston County War Museum. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac is handling arrangements for the family.

Jim was born December 16, 1918 in Chicago, IL a son of Roy and Nancy (Gorder) Dawson. He married Norma Lommatzsch Martin in 1957. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2005.

He is survived by his son: D. Alan (Susan) Martin of Cornelius, NC; his grandsons: Todd (Colleen) Martin, Kevin Martin, and Scott (Dawn) Martin; his great grandchildren: Raymond, Savannah, Sydney and Miranda Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Roy and Harry Dawson; and two sisters: Jean Judd and Betty Cox.

Jim served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a Master Technical Sergeant of Aviation. Jim was the oldest living World War II survivor in Livingston County.

By trade, Jim was a tool and die maker. He later went on to work for Sentry Insurance for over twenty years, retiring at the age of 62.

He was a member of the Pontiac Elks Club and the Pontiac VFW. Jim loved to travel, he also enjoyed birding and wood carving.
