He was born May 20, 1910, in Rosedale, Ind., a son of James Webster and Amanda Jane McIntyre Neet.
He was a member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Neet moved to Waynesboro in 1955 with the General Electric Co., specialty control department, and retired in 1970. He had been active in the local, state and national Sons of the American Revolution.
He had also held various offices in PTAs, AIEE, SPEBSQSA and several local G.E. organizations.
He was a graduate of Rosedale High School, attended Indiana State Teachers College and was a 1934 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
Mr. Neet was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS San Juan in the Pacific theater. An ensign, in 1941, he returned to inactive duty as a commander (USNR) in 1946. During his service he received 13 battle stars and, at the close of World War II, served as an officer-in-charge of liberating prisoners of war and political internees in Japan.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Fisher Neet; four daughters, Sambra Mitchell of Bandon, Ore., Nancy Artman of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Steve (Amanda) Goldberg of Massapequa, N.Y., and Mrs. Stephen (Jennifer) Koenig of Alexandria; four grandchildren; and two nephews.
The body was cremated. There will be no formal visitation or service.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew or a charity of the donor's choice.
