Tim moved to La Junta at the age of one and attended La Junta public schools and graduated in 1978. He went to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) in 1979 and worked 40 years for them until his passing. He was the last of a railroad family totaling over 150 years of Santa Fe and BNSF service.
Tim was a man of many talents. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, skiing, bowling, working jigsaw puzzles and taught himself to play guitar. He was a big Denver Bronco fan, but most of all he loved being with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Abel (Michael) of Fort Collins, CO; granddaughter, Jezzalyn Roberson of Fort Collins, CO; parents, A.W. "Bill" (Ruth) Abel of La Junta; brother, William "Bill" Abel of La Junta; sisters, Sharon Abel (Ron) of Las Vegas, NV; Dawn Harris of Pueblo, CO; uncle, Larry D. Paxton of Chesapeake, VA; aunt, Marilyn (Ralph) Anderson of El Paso, TX; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers also survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Rochelle Abel and infant sister, Terri Ann Abel.
Funeral service will be Monday, January 13, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Ron Skorick of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
