He received his elementary education in the Texas and Arkansas public schools. He was united in marriage to Bernice F. Poppe on April 27, 1950 and he is survived by Bernice, two sons and three daughters.
He moved to Chester in 1948 and drove a transport truck for Peake Inc. He also worked for the State of Nebraska, Department of Roads and drove a transport for Foote Service, Inc., retiring in 1985.
He was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church in Chester on December 11, 1949. He was a veteran of World War II, serving five and one-half years in the African and Italy campaigns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Georgia Dutton and two brothers, Bob and Ed.
He is survived by his wife Bernice of the home; two sons, Marvin of Gentry, Arkansas, David of Chester; three daughters, Mrs. Jim (Georgia) Luedecke, of Gentry, Ark, Mrs. Edar (Kathryn) Berry of Chester, and Mrs. Timothy (Susan) Parker of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one brother, George of Columbus, KS; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Colberg of Hutchinson, KS and Mrs. Hobart (Eula) Robbins of Rogers, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the St. John Lutheran Church of Chester on Tuesday, April 14, 2 p.m., conducted by Pastor Paul M. Hoecker. Organist was Mrs. Gregory Poppe. Singing a duet were Don Wassom and Mrs. Wilbur Mussmann, accompanied by Mrs. Don Wassom. Casket bearers were Jay Jensen, Dan Poppe, Ray Roland, James Johnson, Marvin Harms and Jim Larkins. Interment was made at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart was in charge of service.
