George was the son of Thomas Jefferson Trammell and Rhoda Echols, the grandson of Brigadier General Robert Milner Echols and Mary Melton, as well as John Trammell (who served in the war of 1812) and Mary Polly Dickson. He was the great-grandson of patriot Thomas Trammell (DAR #A116031) and the great-great-grandson of patriots James Turner and Capt John Dickinson (DAR #126.394). Such an strong military legacy in this family. I am sure George felt it his duty to bear arms as well.

When George entered the CSA's 10th Texas Cavalry (Company G), it was as a Corporal so his achievement of Captain is all the more noteworthy.
