Walter was the oldest son of Walter Dicks and Caroline Beach. He was the younger brother of my Great Grandmother, Annie Dicks Rutledge.
He was unmarried and joined the service later than most, at the age of 31 in 1915. He had followed in his Grandfather's work and was a bricklayer.
