Waino D. Binola, 73, of Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at UP Health System in Marquette. He was born in Ishpeming on April 8, 1943, the son of Waino and Margaret (Strahm) Binola. Waino graduated from Escanaba High School in 1963. On March 13, 1965, Waino married Susann Nelson at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Waino retired from Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with his kids and family. He is survived by wife, Susann of Escanaba; children, Rhonda Binola of Marinette, Wis., Stephanie (Mark) Makosky of Ishpeming, and Waino R. Binola of Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Chad, Herbie, Vinnie, Wesley, Raina, Mark, Alex, and Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Linkoln and Leonard; and brother, Casey (Candy) Kiiskella of Suamico, Wis. Waino was preceded in death by his parents. A gathering to celebrate the life of Waino will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the United Steelworkers Union Hall Local 2-21, 1201 Sheridan Road in Escanaba.
