J. E. Peckinpaugh was one of six children born to Rolla and Sarah Jane Lowry Peckinpaugh. He married Eva Sherrard on 11 Feb. 1874. They moved from Leipsic to Rulo, Nebraska soon after, but returned to Leipsic in 1877. He was a farmer, also a member of the County Fair Board, various local school boards, and a member of the IOOF for 52 years. He was well known throughout the area, and local politicians would request his presence as they traveled in the county while campaigning.

With the exception of the first three years of their married life, which was spent in Kansas, Edward and Eva have lived on their farm near Leipsic, until retiring, 21 years, since which time has been a resident of Leipsic, until his death, Feb. 13, 1925. Practically all his life has been spent near their present home, where he has long been known as an uncompromising advocate of honesty, morality and uprightness. On February 11, 1924, Mr. & Mrs. Peckinpaugh celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their children. The death of Mr. Peckinpaugh is the first to occur in the family.
Mr. Peckinpaugh always took an active interest in all educational and industrial affairs. At various times having been associated with boards of education and county and state agricultural activities. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for 52 years, having joined at the first regular meeting of Leipsic Lodge No. 536, and later transferred to Gilboa lodge No. 459. He was also a member of the M.E. Church of Leipsic, Ohio.
Those of the immediate family who remain to mourn his loss are his wife, Eva Sherrard Peckinpaugh and their three sons Charles W. and family, Edward L. and family, of Leipsic, Ohio, Chester M. and family of Lawrenceville, Ill., and daughter Mertie B. Baughman and family of Gilboa, Ohio. Three brothers Robert, Albert, and Isaac, all living in Kansas and a sister Mary M. Price of Santa Barbara, Cal., also many relatives and near friends.
