Mary June Holton, 86, of Lubbock, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 23, 2007. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m., Thursday, July 26 at Asbury United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Rev. Louise Schock, Rev. Herb Tavenner, and Rev. Jorge Ochoa will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Mary June was born May 4, 1921 in Hennessey, Oklahoma to John and Ethel (McCandless) Walter. She was the fourth of six children and the family moved to Lubbock in 1933. Mary June and Alfred R. Holton were married (they actually eloped) on July 6, 1940.

Mary June was the first female class president at Lubbock High School, and was Miss Lubbock and a Tech beauty while in college. She worked at South Plains Glider Base as a draftsman during World War II. She was in Who's Who of Lubbock and was a well known area artist. She was a loyal member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of the UMW.

Mary June was a 30 year cancer survivor, yet never once complained about her illness, being extremely courageous throughout her ordeal.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred, of Lubbock; son Richard Holton and wife, Mariah of Blue, Texas; daughter Alice Bennett and husband, Trip of San Diego, Calif.; daughter Nancy Kireilis and husband Robin of Lubbock; sisters Frances Cummings and Joy Ann Minor; brother Jack Walter; sisters-in-law Jo Ann Walter and Eunice Walter, the Holton family, the Trammel family, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her close friends were Kathryn Trammel, Ida Rhoad, and Marilyn Dunn. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Arnold and Richard.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Obie Stalcup for his many years of service, hard work, and family friendship.

The family suggests memorial donations to Vista Care Hospice, 1717 Norfolk, 4th Floor, Lubbock, TX 79416, Alzheimerís Disease Education, 3601 4th St., Rm. 3A-116, Lubbock, TX 79430, or to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd St., Lubbock, TX 79423.
