The Baltimore Sun, September 6, 1928: – The funeral of James W. Owens, of Annapolis, Confederate veteran and one of the oldest lawyers in Maryland, was held yesterday at Christ Church, Owensville, Anne Arundel county, Mr. Owens, who was 87 years old, died Monday at the Maryland Line Confederate Soldiers’ Home, Pikesville, where he had gone several weeks before. He served for many years as counsel to the Board of Commissioners of Anne Arundel county and was once a candidate for Congress. Mr. Owens is survived by a son, Herbert Owens, Denver, Col., and two daughters, Mrs. Edward Hill, Montgomery, Ala., and Mrs. Millward Hewitt, Denver.
