BETHEL, Rollin H., born Jersey County, Illinois, buried Rosedale cemetery. Rollin H. Bethel, 73, retired farmer of Otterville, died at St. Joseph Hospital, Alton, following surgery for a strangulated hernia. He had been highway commissioner of Otter Creek Township for many years. Mr Bethel was born near Fieldon, was a lifelong resident of Jersey county. He was a successful farmer retiring 27 years ago and moved to Otterville. He was an ardent member of the Democratic party, being at the time of his death a candidate for re-election as precinct committeeman. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Bethel; 7 daughters, Mrs. Fred Kirchner, Mrs. Leslie Spangle, Mrs. Claude Hutchinson, Mrs. Elmer Ridenour, Mrs. Albert Gray of Chicago, and Misses Jane and Jean Bethel of Washington DC; 2 sons, William of Otterville and Mark of Brighton. Jean & Jane, who are twins, arrived at their fathers bedside shortly before his death. Funeral services were held at Otterville Baptist church. Rev C. C. Dawdy of Jerseyville officiated. Interment was in Rosedale cemetery. Mr Bethel was united in marriage on Dec. 1 9, 1916 with Mary Elizabeth (White) Bethel. 2 children preceded him in death. Other survivors are 2 brothers; 1 sister, and 16 grandchildren.
