MAPLETON, Iowa -- Joseph H. Lakner, 96, of Mapleton died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Lakner donated his body to the University of Iowa at Iowa City. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lakner was born April 30, 1906, in South Dakota. He grew up and was educated in Wessington, S.D. Mr. Lakner was united in marriage to Nellie Rogg in 1925. He moved to Ute, Iowa, where he was owner of the Ute Feed Store. In 1982 he was united in marriage to Irene Christophersen.

Survivors include his wife, Irene of Mapleton; a son, Ronald Lakner of Ute; three daughters, Josephine E. Miller of California, Wanda Archbold of Ranch O'Cordorva, Calif., and JoAnn Reincke of Long View, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nellie; a daughter, Delores Ashbra; a brother; a half brother; two sisters; and a nephew, Stanley and his wife, Mary Ann Lakner of Wessington.
