Kevin E. Koenig, 51, of Howards Grove, died Monday morning, September 15, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at his home after a very courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 8, 1963 in Sheboygan, son of Lucille (Hoefler) Koenig and the late Ervin Koenig Sr.
Kevin attended Meeme Elementary School, Kiel Middle School and was a 1981 graduate of Kiel High School. He also received an Associate Degree from LTC.
On September 22, 1984 he married Lori Weimann. On October 25, 1997 he married Marla (Feldmann) Valenstein at Our Shepherd UCC in Howards Grove.
Kevin had previously worked at Kohler Co. from 1983-1996. In 1996 until the present he was the proud owner & operator of Koenig Machine, Inc., Sheboygan. He started the company from ground-up and was a very dedicated owner who truly cared about his employees & customers and tried to please each and every one of them.
He was also a very strong man of faith being a very active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill where he was involved with the Parish Council & Finance Committee as well as a Confirmation teacher for many years. Kevins greatest joy was the time he could spend with his family. He would always put them first, attending all his kids school and sporting events as well as making the time to help any of his extended family with any projects they were working on. He was a loving, husband, dad, grandpa, brother, son and a friend to all who knew him.
Kevin was also very active in baseball, bowling and golf leagues. He especially loved playing sheepshead, cribbage & board games with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Marla, his five children; Ashley (Israel) Deutsch, Green Bay, Mike (Christin) Koenig, Sheboygan, Justin (Michele) Valenstein, Eagan MN, Eric (Mallory) Valenstein, Kansas City, KS, Melissa (fiance, Andy Donalds) Valenstein, Milwaukee, He is further survived one grandchild, Piper Valenstein, with 2 more on the way, his mother, Lucille Koenig, Town of Meeme and brothers & sisters; Sharon (Joe) Kauth, Dubuque, IA, Peter (Trudy) Koenig, Howards Grove, David (Bonnie) Koenig,New Holstein, Mary Jo (Guy) Grube, Kaye (Dean) Dietrich, Dale (Lori) Koenig, all of Kiel, Ervin Koenig Jr, Newton. brother-in-law, Mark (Lori) Feldmann, Elkhart Lake, aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Ervin Sr.
According to Kevin's wishes, cremation has taken place.
The funeral Mass for Kevin will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill with Rev. Patrick Nelson, S.D.S. officiating.
Family and friends may gather at the Church on Saturday, from 9:30 am until 12:45 pm when brief family rites will be held.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
Kevin's family would like to extend their thanks to Aurora VNA, Dr Qamar and the staff at St. Luke's Medical Center for the wonderful care he received.
