ADAM, AGNES C
On her 100th birthday, December 18, 1993 at Annaburg Manor Nursing Home in Manassas, VA. She was born on December 18, 1893 in Paulding OH, the daughter of the late Charles F. and Ida Adam. They later relocated to Erie, PA in 1908.
Miss Adam came to Washington in 1918, working in the Office of the Quartermaster General. She moved to the Office of the Army Surgeon General in 1920 when functions of that office were transferred to the Surgeon General. She retired in May 1959, after 41 years of government service, 39 years of which were in the Surgeon General's Office. Miss Adam received the Army's Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service, presented by Surgeon General Silas B. Hays, on behalf of the Secretary of the Army. She was a member of the St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, Silver Spring, MD. She is preceded in death by seven sisters, Ethel Adam, Bernice Wetzler, Elsie Henck, Sarah Gustafson, Ellen Bloss, Mary Himmelman and Martha McCutcheon. Surviving is one sister, Lu Adams, Jacksonville, Fl. Also surviving is her nephew, The Rev. Robert A. Himmelman, Fairfax, VA. along with numerous other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, January 2, 1994 at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8712 Plantation Lane, Manassas, VA. Interment in Erie, PA.
