He began his career with J.R. Simplot in 1953, and retired in 1986 as a general traffic manager. Pete was a dedicated and loyal employee, and proud to be a part of the company. He served as president and member of the board of directors for the Treasure Valley Traffic Club, and board member of NACA of Ontario, Oregon for many years.
He married Jule Frances "Peg" Alexander in 1954 in Winnemucca, Nevada. This union was blessed with fived children. Pete's wife and family were the love of his life. Most recently he enjoyed being a grandfather to four grandchildren.
Pete was a very generous person and had time for anyone in need. He was interpreter for numerous non-English speaking Basques, and served on many charitable committees, including the Senior Citizens and Salvation Army. He was one of the founding members of the Caldwell Basque Charity, and a longtime member of the Caldwell Elks. He was honored by his fellow Elks for his community service by being voted Elk of the Year in 1982.
After his retirement from Simplot, he took up a number of other "careers". In fact, he often said he was busier after retirement than before. Three of his favorite activities were: fishing, his grandchildren, and his work in Jordan Valley. In recent years he became interested in projects involving his beloved childhood home, and was instrumental in organizing the Jordan Valley reunions, and was also involved in efforts to preserve an historical community landmark, the old Pelota Court.
Survivors include his wife, "Peg", children: Tony Araquistain, of Elko, Nevada; Mark (Theresa)of Caldwell; Mary Araquistain of Ocean Shores, Washington; Craig Araquistain of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Beth Elsberry of Middleton, Idaho. Brothers: Luis of San Jose, California and Paul of Los Altos Hills, California. Grandchildren: Emily and Marquina Araquistain, Jed and Levi Elsberry. He leaves also a very large extended family and many friends.
