Bernetia Lucille Mortimer Wilson, age 96, Wellman Line Road; RD Yale, Michigan, died peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 6, 2006. She was born July 29, 1909, the daughter of Albert and Rosina (Sibbald) Mortimer in Fremont Township. She attended the Roseburg School and graduated in the class of 1928 from Yale High School. She became a registered nurse after graduating from the Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit. On August 31, 1940 she married Russell Wilson. In 1945 they moved from the Detroit area back to Fremont Township, where they have made their home for the past sixty-one years.

Bernetia is survived by her husband Russell; two sons, James (Rene) Wilson and Fredric (Bonnie) Wilson of RD Yale; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, her brother Roland Mortimer, and many nieces and nephews. Bernetia was preceded in death by her parents, son Charles (1948 - 1982); sister Louise Sheldon, niece Rosann Sheldon-Burt, and several extended family members.

Bernetia was an early advocate and organizer of the Sanilac County ARC and was involved in the establishment of "Orchard Hall" in Croswell. She was Fremont Township Supervisor/Assessor for two years and worked part-time at the Sanilac County Medical Center in Sandusky for many years. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church (Roseburg and Greenwood).

Visitation will be at the Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, on Friday May 12 from 4 to 8 PM and on Saturday 10 to 11 AM. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 11 AM on Saturday. Rene Wilson and Rev. Jack Allen will officiate. Burial will take place in Fremont Township Cemetery north of Roseburg.
