Son of James Edward and Eva Sherrard Peckinpaugh. Chester lived in Detroit for a time, graduated from Tri State College in Angola Indiana, and became a pharmacist. He worked in drug stores throughout Indiana and Illinois, finally as a pharmacist for the Haag Drug Company at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis. He married Beulah K. Bell, and they had one daughter, Kathryn.
