Former McLoud resident Dora H. Kirch Blanken, 93, died as gracefully as she had lived at the home of her daughter, Carol B. Saenger of Frankfort, Ky.
Her sunrise was Nov. 3, 1913, and her sunset was July 20, 2007.
Dora was born in McCloud to Anna Marie Callies Kirch and Herman August Kirch.
She was married Nov. 25, 1937, to Arthur H. Blanken. She celebrated 65 years of life with him until his death in 2002.
Dora was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and homemaker. Her gift of hospitality was shared with people coast-to-coast and internationally. Her gift of faith and her support for missions have touched many lives. Although she never recognized her dream of becoming a commissioned missionary, she shared the love of Christ with everyone with whom she came in contact. She was a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ogden, Utah, and helped establish the church's school. She has faithfully attended and joyfully served God in churches in Shawnee; Odgen, Utah; Evanston, Wyo.; Cedar City, Utah; Omaha, Neb.; Hemet, Calif.; and Tucson, Ariz. She supported local churches wherever her life with Art led as he traveled with his work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Together, they enjoyed time with family and friends, travel, golf, bowling, cards, and fishing at Lake Tenkiller.
Daughter, Connie B. (Joseph) Farugia of Tucson, Ariz., also cared for their mother in the years following their father's death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward Kirch and Herbert Kirch; and her sister; Laura Kirch Zito
Other survivors include a brother, Robert (Lois) Kirch, Ogden, Utah; four grandchildren, Michael (Sheryl) Saenger, Atlanta, Ga.; Jeffery (Rene') Saenger, San Antonio, Texas; Stephanie Gervais, Peoria, Ariz.; Jennifer (Jeremy) Waters, Hemet, Calif.; and three step-grandchildren, Carol Farugia, St. Charles, Ill.; Joe D. (Karen) Farugia, Phoenix, Ariz.; and David (Vicki) Farugia, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; and 21 great-grandchildren. .
Dora is enjoying a new dawn and an eternal life free from the effects of a rare neurodegenerative disease that left her vital mind trapped in a body that gradually lost its power to support movement or life.
A Celebration of Life gathering, honoring Dora and her sister, Laura K. Zito, who died April 10, 2007, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Frankfort, Ky., as both sisters whose lives had been intertwined since their birth spend their last earthly days together in Kentucky.
A joint memorial service will be 11 a.m. on August 7, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogden, Utah, where both sisters were long-time members. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Dora Blanken's cremains will be interred at the Memorial Gardens of Wasatch, Ogden, Utah, and Laura Zito's will rest at the Roy Cemetery in Roy, Utah.
