Harold Gray LADY LAKE, FL- After a sudden onset and brief battle with cancer, Harold Eugene Gray was taken to be with the Lord from his home in Lady Lake, Florida on August 10, 2002. Harold was born on April 11, 1925 and was the only child of Gladies Gray Bianchi. This devoted and loving father and grandfather leaves his daughters: Penny McDonald and husband Jon of Lady Lake, FL, Kathy Terrell of Chicago, IL and Marcy Payne and husband Jim of Decatur, IL; plus grandsons, Antonio Butts and wife Shelly of Decatur, Brandon Johnson and wife Sharon of Snellville, GA and Brent Johnson and wife Melissa of Forest Park, GA. Also surviving are two great grandsons, Jordon Butts and Clay Johnson and two great-granddaughters, Jessica Johnson and MaKayla Foley. Harold was well-loved by all who met him as he was generous of heart, extremely outgoing, most kind and possessed a quick wit with a tremendous sense of humor. He carried a ready smile and lent a helping hand to strangers and friends alike. He was a man who would willingly do anything for anyone if he could. A Navy veteran of World War II, Harold was a proud patriot, a Mason and"a life-time member of the V.F.W. His livelihoods included ownership of Gray's Market in the 1940's; meat cutter manager of Higgins Grocery Store; and manager of the bowling alley and recreation facilities at Eastern Illinois University (becoming the unofficial "coach" of the woman's bowling team in one season, taking them to the national finals). Later, he became the night manager of the : University Union at E.I.U. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Harold was preceded in death by his precious wife, June Walker Gray, and now joins her in eternity where they are reunited and resting in heavenly peace. God bless you, Dad and Poppo. We will miss you and your precious smiling face always, and will love you forever. A graveside service will take place at the Mound Cemetery in Charleston, IL on Sunday, August 25 at 2:00 P.M., immediately followed by a memorial tribute at the Charleston V.F.W. All who wish to honor this wonderful man's life are welcome. Local arrangements are being handled by Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, Decatur, IL.
