Obituary for Mayhew Franklin Koellein, Sr.
Mr. Mayhew Franklin Koelein, Sr., age 82 of Dickson, TN passed away peacefully on Thursday January 23, 2020 at his home with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Nashville, TN he was the son of the late James Alex and Julia White Koellein and was preceded in death by his second wife Suzanne Hotchkiss Koellein.
Mayhew was a 1956 graduate of Isaac Litton High School where he was a member of the “Marching 100” band. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and was also of member of the Golden Eagle Band. Mayhew was an Eagle Scout in Troop 38 in Nashville.
He retired from Vanderbilt Medical Center after 43 years working as a Medical Photographer Supervisor. Some other jobs Mayhew has had were he worked for Capital Engraving Co., Putman Co. Herald Newspaper, WSM News Dept. and while attending College he was a farmer. Mayhew was a water-skiing instructor as well as a boater and he took after his father for his love of playing the organ and he practiced daily. He was a member of the International Harvester Club for over 20 years and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Sandra Ray Fuller Koellein of Dickson, TN; sons, Mayhew Franklin Koellein, Jr. (Linda) of Dickson, TN, James Alex Koellein II (Mary) of Adams, TN; step-children, Sherry Jeannine Allen (Bill) and Richard Fuller all of California; grandchildren, Elizabeth Russell (Jeremy), Evan, Tate and Emily Koellein; step-grandchildren, Tanner and Trent Allen.
Funeral services will be Monday January 27, 2020 at 2 PM from the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Robert G. Wetterau & Bro. Ed Beard officiating.
Burial will be Wednesday January 29, 2020 at 11 AM at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, TN. Visitation with the family will be Sunday January 26th from 2 to 8 PM and on Monday from 12 PM until time of service.
