The Milledgeville News Saturday,. February 13, 1909 Mrs. J C Whitaker claimed by death Death claimed Mrs. Rosa S. Whitaker, wife of J C Whitaker one of the most prominent citizens of this city. Mrs. Whitaker was attacked by paralysis on the Wednesday preceeding and though everything in human power was done to aid her, she never rallied from the time she was stricken and she died Sunday night, surrounded by family and friends. The funeral was held at the Episcopal Church Monday afternoon, Rev. W S Scarritt, DD, officiating. The pall bearers were Messrs. JJ Harper, RW Watcher, DW Brown, JA Horne, AJ Carr and Prof. Wardlaw. Mrs. Whitaker was the daughter of the late Wm H. Scott and was born here. Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her husband and six children, these being Miss Gertrude Whitaker of Washington, Mrs. Severance of North Carolina, misses Scott, Marion, and Orie Whitaker, and Mr. JC Whitaker of Columbia, SC. In addition to these, she leaves five brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Whitaker was known as a lovable and industrious woman, having a large circle of friends who will sorely miss her. She was an earnest worker in religious and charitable causes and to her family, the entire community extends heartfelt sympathy.
