Dottie was born in Hungary in 1891 and came to the US with her family in 1895. She married Philip Cohen, a Vaudeville performer who went by the name of Phil Roy, in 1917. In 1921, she gave birth to her son Jacob, named after his paternal grandfather. Jacob also had a calling to show business and gained fame as comedian Rodney Dangerfield. Dottie died in Queens in 1962.
